Forest School
and OSC Summer Programs

The B Hive’s Forest School summer program combines the joy of play with meaningful learning, giving children the chance to explore, create, and grow surrounded by the wonders of the outdoors for children ages K to grade 2.

The OSC (Out of School Care Program) is designed to engage children from grades 3 to grade 6 in enriched learning opportunities through community activities, field trips and on site learning.

This program will be led by certified educators who facilitate our learners through play-based, emergent, and inquiry-driven teaching and learning methods. The view is that risky play is an integral part of children’s learning and healthy development, and is facilitated by knowledgeable, qualified educators who support children and youth to co-manage risk.

Forest Summer School was created to allow students to visit the outdoors for learning opportunities and exploration in the forested areas on and adjacent to the property daily. This type of programming allows for educators and students, weather permitting, to spend considerable portions of the day spent outside. Small-class sizes, individualized programming, outdoor experiences, and a different approach to learning and assessment allow all students to succeed and thrive.
Outdoor-based learning takes place in any outdoor space, including urban green spaces, playgrounds, forests, creeks, prairies, etc. Field trips and daily activities will be planned to maximize the outdoor spaces available to us.

Hours of Operation

As part of our commitment to smaller groups, as well as to enhance the opportunities for field trips, community outings, and off-site learning experiences, please note that we offer limited care hours over the summer.

The B Hive summer programs will operate from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm with a max attendance of 9 hours per day.

We are unable to offer pick up or drop off outside of these hours.

Who Can Join?

Our Forest School summer program will be open to Grades K-3 (OSC) over the months of July and August

Summer care is a full-time time commitment for July and August.

*Please note that this will exclude a week of closure June 30 to July 4 and August 25- Sept 1, to do maintenance before Fall.

The Goal

To support children in developing an understanding of themselves as a part of the natural world. Natural learning relies on loose, natural materials to support open-ended, creative play and learning. This method views children and youth as innately competent, curious, and capable learners.
